Alice E. Bertram, 84, of New Castle passed away Friday, December 20, 2014 at the Heritage House of New Castle surrounded by her family. She was born June 25, 1930 in Highway, KY to the late Chester and Cora (Abston) Ferguson.
She was married to the late Basil Bertram on May 27, 1949 in New Castle.
Alice attended school at the Churntop School in Highway, KY. She was employed briefly at Delco Remy, before leaving to raise her family. She later was employed at Henry County Hospital in the laundry department and Western Electric in Indianapolis. She also cleaned numerous homes. Alice was a member of the United Brethren Church where she was the music director for the youth ministry. She attended the Charity Baptist Church and was a member of the Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood. She was also known as Rosie the Clown, and was known for her laugh and jokes she told. She enjoyed watching county music videos.
Survivors include her daughters: Sharon (Gary) Bell of New Castle, Pat (David) Harry of Franklin, IN; son: Terry D. (Sandy York) Bertram of New Castle; her sister-in-law whom she raised as her daughter, Vicky (Paul) Davis of New Castle; grandchildren: Cindy K. (fiancé, Lee Skeem) Smith of Utah, Candy (Bryan) Smith, Chuck Bell II, Joshua Bertram and Nicole (Jeremy) Ashby all of New Castle, Kelli (fiancé, Scott Bradley) Turlo of Greenwood, IN, Patrick Harry of Franklin, IN; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Audrey Duncan of Anderson, Agatha Zambos of Middletown, Carolyn Riley Tyra, Gloria (Tom) Riddle and Pam Ferguson all of AZ; brother-in-law, Sammy (Lois) Bertram of Cookville, TN; uncle, John Abston of New Castle; her nephews, Jamie, Corey, Blaine and Mat Ferguson all of AZ; and her granddog “Peanut” who was by her side all the time.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Chester G. Ferguson, Jr. and James “Fergie” Ferguson; her sister-in-law whom she raised Charlotte Overton; and brother-in-law, Eddie “Ramo” Webb.
The family wants to thank the staff at the Heritage House who gave wonderful care to her during her brief stay.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Paul Davis and Larrel Boling officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 AM Tuesday until time of service.
