Bertha Dolores Ooten, age 84 of Kennard, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospice Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born August 25, 1930 in Honey Creek, Indiana to the late Leonard Lothair and Dorothy Irene (Lockridge) Harry.
She retired from the Finance Center at Ft. Harrison where she had been employed as a computer operator for over 20 years. She was a member of the Ramblin Roses Red Hat Society, Home Ec Club and attended Kennard Baptist Church. Bertha enjoyed playing cards with her friends, spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren, eating out with her friends, visiting friends and family and sitting on the porch.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Buell) Gonzales, Sr. of Drewsey, OR and Janet (Terry) Fields of Kennard; grandchildren, Michelle Fields of Greenfield, Buell (Kendra) Gonzales, Jr. of Brookings, OR, Chanda (Brandon) Hastings of Kennard, Joshua (Jamie) Gonzales of Van Couver, WA; great grandchildren, Haley Cruse, Taylor Gonzales, Sidney Hastings, Buell Gonzales, III, Kyle Gonzales, Grace Hastings, Kayden Gonzales, Charlie Hastings and Makenna Cleek; sister, Rita (Sam) Southerland of New Castle; several nieces and nephews, step children and step grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bud Batson and Kenny Ooten; brother, Harold Harry.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Brent Weaver and Steve Arnett officiating.
