Betty O. Baker

Betty O. Baker, 84, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born January 8, 1932 in Floyd County, KY, a daughter of the late Callie H. and Rhoda (Holbrook) Prater.

Betty retired from the New Castle State Developmental Hospital in New Castle following over 30 years of service. She had attended the First Apostolic Church in New Castle.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce D. Wood of New Castle; two granddaughters, Josette Wood and Angelique Wood, both of New Castle; sisters, Wanda (Chester) York of Little Paint Creek, KY, Thelma (James) Miller of Paintsville, KY, Kathy Howell of Floyd County, KY, Ethel Thompson of Warsaw, IN, Bethel Barth of Milford, IN; a brother, Clayton Prater of Grover, NC; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Callie H. Prater and Rhoda Prater Mullett; her husband, James O. Baker; a granddaughter, April Michelle Blevins; brothers, Austin, Milton, Floyd, Utah, Loyal, Butch, and Donnie Prater, and Ralph Mullett; sisters, Virginia Wood, Pauline Prater, Phyllis Blevins, and Mary Woods.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with funeral services beginning a 3:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. John D.
