Betty Jane Carmichael, 89, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Parker Health Care and Rehabilitation in Parker City, IN after an extended illness. Betty Jane was born at home near Mooreland, IN on July 16, 1926 to the late Frank and Neva (Replogle) Cross.
She attended Blountsville School in Henry County and graduated from Center High School in Delaware County in 1945. She married Wendell Carmichael in April 24, 1948. She was a long-time, faithful member of the Buck Creek Church of the Brethren near Mooreland, IN. Through the years she served the church in many ways including teaching Sunday School, directing Vacation Bible School, participating in CBWF and performing the many duties as a Pastor’s wife.
Betty Jane was a housewife and farmwife. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She had several hobbies including crocheting, sewing, growing houseplants, planting trees, cooking, and caring for miniature donkeys. In the Health Care Center, Betty Jane was known for her praying out loud and many people stopped by her room just to hear her pray.
Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Sandi (Darrell) Lumpkin of Modoc; two grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Lumpkin of Lafayette and Emily (Dave) Hines of Marion. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Alma) Cross of Mooreland and her sister-in-law Sue Cross of Mooreland and several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Betty Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wendell of 59 years, her son, Doug Carmichael, and her brother, Lincoln Cross.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Parker Health Care for the excellent care Betty Jane received throughout her stay there. A special thank you for the kindness and care shown to Betty Jane’s family throughout her stay and especially during her last few days. Also, a special thank you for the tender and compassionate care and support of Heart to Heart Hospice for Betty Jane and her Family.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, at Buck Creek Church of the Brethren, Mooreland, IN with Pastor Chuck Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport, IN. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, February 8, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, IN and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
