Betty O. Melton, 74, of Kennard passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born August 21, 1940 in Olive Hill, KY to the late Delbert and Leola (Logan) Conley Sr.
Betty loved children, especially her children and grandchildren, and they were all a big part of her life. She enjoyed growing flowers, cooking holiday family dinners, telling stories to her grandchildren, and shopping. She also enjoyed watching Steve and Bud race at the Mt. Lawn Speedway. Betty was a very good seamstress, making clothing for her children and even a wedding dress for a daughter-in-law. She was also active in the Boy Scouts for a number of years.
Betty is survived by her children, Yvonne Mead of Crawfordsville, Edward “Bud” Harwood of Shirley, Kenny Harwood of Kennard, Tim Harwood of Shirley, Steve (Jennifer) Melton of New Castle, Robert Frazier of Kennard; grandchildren, Misty (Todd) Garland, Michael (Katie) Mead, Megan Mead, Adrianne Compton, William Harwood, David Smith, Jeremy (Jenny) Harwood, Austin Harwood, Ray Harwood, Jennifer (Jimmy) Quinn, Steve (Brittany) Sanders, Nicole (Tyler) Smith, Brittany (Ryan) Tharpe, Somer Parker, Karina Bowling, Nikalas Roach, Cortnei Roach, Alyssa (Jeremy) Glover, and Stephanie Melton; many great grandchildren; siblings, Delbert (Karen) Conley Jr., Bonnie (Ronald) Gross, Barb (Wayne) Austin, Mary Lou Huckleby, Sue Parmley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by husbands, Edward “Bucky” Harwood and Leon Melton; grandchildren, Jesse Sanders and Johnny Harwood; daughters-in-law, Karen and Polly Harwood.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hancock Foundation, c/o Cancer Wing, 801 N. State St. Greenfield, IN 46140.
