Carl W. Oney

Carl W. Oney, 82, Muncie, Indiana, went home to his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on Monday January 1, 2018, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s. Carl was born December 28, 1935 in Morehead, Kentucky to the late Everett and Louella Oney. He was the precious husband of Jean Fraley Oney, who entered heaven on September 14, 2014.

Carl lived his life with unconditional love for his family and a strong faith in God. He modeled these attributes for his daughter, Susan Miller (husband, Phil Miller) and his beloved grandchildren, Alysha Ellison and Isaac Miller.

Carl was a diligent and loyal employee of the City of New Castle Waterworks, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in New Castle, and was loved by many as a good friend. His dry southern humor was always met with a smile as he shared countless laughs with his friends and family. He had a giving and thankful heart and his presence will be greatly missed.

Carl was preceded in death by siblings Edmond Oney, Everett Oney, Jr., Margaret Turner Miller, Hildreth Hoover, Lillian Blevins Lucas, Edna Ferguson, Faye McGraw; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by two siblings; Ervin (Jewell) Oney and Eula Adkins.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Heather Hamilton and the staff of Woodway Internal Medicine; and the loving care of so many at The Woodlands Nursing Center; especially Cindy Winningham, Carolyn Watkins, Kristin Dyke, Brooke McCrystal, and Sandy Smith.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 6th, from 11-1 followed by the funeral service at 1pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liberty Street Recovery Program at Muncie Mission Ministries, 1725 S. Liberty Street; Muncie, IN 47302.
