Dennis R. Vickery, 82, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center. He was born October 22, 1932 in Monticello, KY a son of Printis and Valree (Carrender) Vickery.
Dennis was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #333 in Hagerstown. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired from Bekin’s Moving and Storage in Houston, TX after over 26 years of service. He loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlene Vickery of New Castle; two sisters-in-law, Betty Rhodus of Hagerstown and Jeaneta Neal of New Castle; one special nephew, Gary Cross of Anderson; and two special nieces, Patsy (Rodney) Shultz of New Castle and Nellie Rackow of MN; several additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Knox and Cathern Vickery; nephews, Larry, George and Bill Vickery; a niece, Cathern Marie Vickery.
Service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Brother Bobby Slagle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Hagerstown American Legion Post #333. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday.
