Diana K. "Dee" Downs

Diana K “Dee” Downs, 65, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017 while surrounded by her family at her home, following an extended illness. She was born July 5, 1952 in Muncie, IN, a daughter of the late Rex and Erma (Kanouse) Linville.

A 1970 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, Dee was a beautician in New Castle for over 40 years. She had owned and operated the Beauty Nook, and also worked for Bolden’s, Lenoir’s Magic Mirror, and Futuristic. She also enjoyed reading, word searches and crossword puzzles.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 38 years, Jerry Downs, whom she married July 21, 1979; a daughter, Shara Lodge (Chris Frisbie) of New Castle; a son, Joe (Jessica) Downs of New Castle; two grandchildren, Jace and Jasmine Downs, both of New Castle; a sister, Linda (Jerry) Kriner of New Castle; two brothers, Jeff Linville of Florence, KY, and Roger (Margaret) Linville of Rushville; several nieces and nephews. Also, sisters-in-law, Hazel Seabolt and Beulah Lyall, who both assisted with giving Dee care. Her dog, Chico, also survives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Lodge; her in laws, Harold and Elva Downs, and a sister-in-law, Anita Burns.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Steve Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the funeral home.
