Don Loveless Sr.

January 19, 1939 — May 1, 2018

Don Loveless, Sr., 79, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his home with his family at his side. Pap left us at the water’s edge; we went as far as we could with him when he went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born January 19, 1939 in Science Hill, KY to the late Ben and Margaret (Wood) Loveless.

Mr. Loveless had an illustrious career; he served his country for 12 years as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force in the 125th Air Defense Command and with the Florida Air National Guard in Jacksonville, FL with the highest security clearance.

He was a multi-engine and instrument instructor pilot as well as a commercial pilot. He flew charter for many dignitaries including multiple Florida congressmen, Sonny and Cher, professional wrestlers, Dick the Bruiser and Bobo Brazil and was asked to fly Richard Nixon to South America. He still owns his own Beechcraft Bonanza. He was also an avid photographer.

Mr. Loveless was a 56 year member of Oceanway Masonic Lodge No. 279 in Jacksonville, FL since 1962 and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.

As a veteran, he made it his mission to make sure other veterans knew about their VA benefits, and provided transportation to and from the Indianapolis VA hospital. He retired as a journeyman electrician from General Motors in Muncie in 1993; all while owning and operating five carwashes as well as raising a family with his wife Connie. Donations were not photo ops for Pap; his family says that is just not how he rolls!!

He was recently awarded the distinguished honor of Kentucky Colonel. This is the highest honor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. His four children along with his cousin, Wanda Dick of Kentucky, petitioned Kentucky Governor Mathew G. Bevin, to vet their father’s dossier and surprise him on his birthday with a framed declaration of his rank as a member of the “Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels”. Mr. Loveless’ father, Ben Loveless, and brother, Ralph were also Kentucky Colonels. Founded in 1932 the order is now a philanthropic organization.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, of 59 years, children, Cindy Loveless-Campbell of New Castle; Don Loveless, Jr. (Diana Berry) of Mt. Summit, Bryan Loveless of Byrdstown, TN; and Jason (Lora) Loveless of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Hillary, Brad, Connor, Alex, Gracie, Garrett and Sophia Loveless; brothers, Claud (Wanda) Loveless and Murrell D. Loveless, both of New Castle; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Jewell Mason, brothers, Benny and Ralph Loveless, sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Loveless and Bette Loveless, several aunts and uncles.

He attended Grace Baptist Church and although he did not attend regularly, his faith was unshakable and never missed an opportunity to share it with others. Those who truly knew Pap understood, “God must have spent a little more time on him….miss you”.
