Earnest “Dale” Roberts, 86, of New Castle passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born April 4, 1929 in Soldier, KY to the late Andy and Bertha (Porter) Roberts.
Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Pusan, Korea. He spent most of his working days in the steel industry, beginning at Seco Steel in Chicago and then moving home to work for Modernfold, where he retired following 25 years of service. Dale enjoyed traveling, collecting guns and knives, and working on old cars. Most of all, Dale loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Dale is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ina (Vitatoe) Roberts of New Castle; three sons, Vernon Roberts of Modoc, Gary Roberts of New Castle, and Steve (Companion, Cheryl West) Roberts of New Castle; grandchildren, Rachael Roberts of Centerville, Amy (Josiah) Oaks of Albany, IN, Autumn Roberts of Modoc, Kathy West of New Castle; great grandchildren, Collin and Cameron Stanley both of Centerville, Jolin, Talin, and Avery Oaks all of Albany, IN; sister, Virginia Jones of New Castle.
In addition to his parents Dale was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kasie Roberts; two brothers and four sisters.
Services will be 1:00P.M. Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend David Perry officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition with military rites conducted by the local American Legion /VFW and an active duty contingent from the U.S. Army.
