Emery Sheffield, 90 of Draper, Utah died peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2017. He was a former resident of New Castle and Largo, Florida. He was preceded in death July 2015 by his wife of 68 years, Jean Sheffield. Emery was born in Albany, Kentucky on April 6, 1926 to Willie Robert and Laura Mae Sheffield. They moved to New Castle in his early teens. Emery would have been a member of the New Castle High School Class of 1946 but left school to join the U.S. Army. He was sent to Japan to fight in World War II and was a proud veteran. Upon return, he married and settled in New Castle. He retired from Chrysler Corporation as a journeyman pipe fitter. He and his wife were members of First Church of the Nazarene where he was often referred to as the Candy Man due to the candy he always carried for both children and adults. He was an avid amateur photographer of family and friends. He loved music of all kinds, but country was his favorite.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeri Gooding of Draper, Utah and his son, Emery Sheffield, Jr. (Brent Clevenger) of Columbus, Indiana, his granddaughter, Susan (Jason) Levin of Sandy, Utah, great grandchildren, Maya Jeanne, Riley Elizabeth and Sean Emery Levin. He is also survived by a sister, Janet Hay, a sister in law, Virginia Sheffield, brothers in law, Dan (Anna) Hyden, Harold Hacker and Winford Norman. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, son in law, Jerry Gooding, his brothers, James Paul Sheffield, Gene Dale Sheffield, sisters, Willie Mae Sheffield and Myra Hacker. Also, sisters in law, Ermel Sheffield, Barbara Jones, Ginger Norman and brothers in law, John Hay and Wendell Jones.
He was also a loving grandfather to step grandchildren Tisha (Tom) Sledd, Josiah and Joel Sledd of New Castle, Toby (JoAnna) Rush, Hunter, Nathan, Isaiah and Jasmine Rush of Roeland Park, Kansas, Kimberly (Andy) Votava, Anna and A.J. of Oro Valley, Arizona and Kristy Gooding of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, January 8 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. The funeral will be held at 11:00 Monday, January 9 at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Waltz officiating. Calling will also be one hour prior to the service on Monday.
