Francis L. Shores, 94, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 8, 1921 in Gaston, a son of the late Frank L. and Della (Groce) Shores.
A 1940 graduate of Muncie Central High School, Francis served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in India (Calcutta), China, and Burma, and was ranked Tech Sgt. at discharge. He retired from Warner Gear in Muncie in 1975. He had lived in Muncie until moving to New Castle in 1971. A very active and long-time member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God, Francis was on the Board of Trustees and in the Caring Keenagers Class.
Francis was a wood-craftsman of superior quality. He has made over 150 Grandfather clocks; made the rostrum President Kennedy spoke behind in Muncie; built many pieces of furniture for his church, including desks, tables, bookshelves, credenzas, etc. He also made trophy cases for Steve Alford, dies for Nuturn Corp., and desks for Ameriana Bank.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children: Gary Shores of Greenfield, Michael (Pam) Shores of Springboro, OH, and Patricia (Wayne) Saunders of Greenfield; a step-son, Robert Cassity of New Castle; grandchildren, Derrick Flowers of Greenfield, Doug Flowers of Camden, OH, Kristi (Doug) Eickman of Lebanon, OH, Kari Ann Saunders of Greenfield, and Jay (Mindy) Shores of Alpharetta, GA; three great granddaughters, Kira, Ava, and Alyssa; two great grandsons, Peyton and Tyler; a sister, Lois (Melvin) Smith of Muncie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Shores in 1967, his second wife, Mildred Shores in 2002; a son, Tim Shores in 2008; a step-son, Bill Cassity in 2006; five brothers, and two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Muncie. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to the South Memorial Drive Church of God, 3800 S.
