G. William "Bill" Bailey

G. William “Bill” Bailey, 96, a lifetime resident of New Castle passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Henry County Hospital. He was born September 12, 1920 in New Castle, a son of the late Gerald W. and Faye L. Bailey.

Bill was a 1938 graduate of New Castle High School. During his senior year in high school, Bill started working in the advertising department of The Courier Times and continued, in the ad department until retiring on December 31, 1985. While working at The Courier Times during WWII, Bill volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for three and a half years, two of which were in the South Pacific.

Bill was active in civic affairs and served as president of the United Fund, president of Westwood Country Club, charter member and organizer of the New Castle Jaycees, and was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #484. Also, he served on many committees dealing with the retail division of the Chamber of Commerce. Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Savings and Loan and Ameriana Savings Bank.

Bill is survived by his children, William L. “Bill” (Kay) Bailey of Fort Wayne, Bruce C. (Dee Dee) Bailey of New Castle; grandchildren, Alison (Drew) Carlson of Indianapolis, Benjamin Bailey of Indianapolis, Nicholas Bailey of Chicago, Alex Bailey of Tokyo, Japan; great grandchildren, William Thomas and Katherine Adaline Carlson; sister, Elouise (William) Guyer of Indianapolis.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Adaline (Chambers) Bailey.

Services will be at 2:00p.m. Saturday January 7, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Alan McCraine officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the local American Legion/VFW and the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00-2:00p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 1202 Church St, New Castle, IN 47362 or Westminster Community Center, 2600 C Ave, New Castle, IN 47362.
