Harry Thomas Penrose Jr.

Harry Thomas Penrose, Jr. of New Castle, IN passed away on October 19, 2014 at 2:00pm in his home. He was surrounded by family when he passed, his wife and sons at his bedside and his daughter and son-in-law looking down from Heaven. He was born on November 4, 1946 in Braddock, PA to Harry Thomas Penrose, Sr. and Josephine Ann (Bujakowski) Penrose.

After graduating from Chartiers-Houston High School in 1964, he enlisted in the United States Marines, serving from 1964 – 1968. He voluntarily served two tours in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle.

After doing his duty for his country, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann Leise, on May 17, 1969. He was a true Pittsburgh Steeler, going on to work in the steel industry, working for Jessop Steel in Washington, PA for 10 years. He moved to New Castle, IN in 1979, where he worked for Ingersoll-Johnson Steel and Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporations.

Harry was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the course with his family and friends from the mill.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Penrose of New Castle,IN; sons Michael (Joy) Penrose of Indianapolis, IN and Steven (Gressa Riggs) Penrose of New Castle, IN; Granddaughters Lauren Penrose, Emma Penrose, Bailey Butcher; Grandsons Noah Riggs, Jacob Penrose, Trenton Sweigart, and Cooper Penrose; Brothers James Penrose of Canonsburg, PA and Clyde Penrose of Phoenix, AZ; Mother Josephine Penrose of Houston, PA, as well as several other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry T. Penrose, Sr; daughter and son in law, Stacy and Jason Sweigart.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Graveside Committal Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition with Military Rites conducted by the local American Legion and active duty contingent of the US Marines Corps. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, 1223 1/2 28th St., San Diego, CA 92102 or the Henry County Community Foundation, PO Box 6006, New Castle, IN 47362.
