Helen V. Bales, 92, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born March 31, 1923 in Hagerstown the daughter of Pleasant and Madge (Davis) Newman.
Helen grew up in the Mooreland area, graduated from Mooreland High School and enjoyed gathering with the Daffey Deckum group from Mooreland H.S. to play euchre. She loved to make people happy, was cheerful, had a welcoming smile, never met a stranger, and loved to talk to people. Helen was a member of the White Branch Church of the Brethren and had also attended New Castle Friends Meeting where she sang in the choir. She loved her house, her “Spanish Villa” and put her heart into caring for her home.
She is survived by a son: Bruce Bales of Forest Park, IL; two half brothers, Terry and Duane (Mary) Newman and their children; nephews and nieces, Michael (Rachael) Adams and family of OH, Milton Ashby of CO, Sharon (Bill) Cipiti of OH, and Debbie (Jeff) Parker of OH; several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roberts S. Bales; son, Larry Bales; sister, Barbara Adams.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Brian Mackie officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
