Hershel H. Fairchild

Hershel H. Fairchild, 75, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 27, 1940, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, a son of the late Fount and Minnie Bell (Slagle) Fairchild.

He owned and operated Henry County Livestock Auction after 55 years in the livestock business. Hershel enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, traveling and going to Hardee’s. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Donna (Clapp) Fairchild; three children, Doug (Paige) Fairchild of New Castle, Kim (Ed) Smith of New Castle and P.J. Fairchild (Ginny Shafer) of Tampa, Florida; three grandsons; Brent (Kristen) Fairchild, Brice Fairchild and Derek (Britney) Chew; brother, Dave Fairchild of New Castle; sister, Ollie (Bill) Lee of New Castle; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, A.J. Fairchild, Wallace Fairchild, Dewey Fairchild, Parker Fairchild, Bob Fairchild, Dean Fairchild, an infant brother: Gene Ray Fairchild and Glenn Fairchild; sisters, Glenna Fairchild, Gladys Nosler and Onley Huffman.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
