Hubert "Huey" Hinshaw

Hubert W. “Huey” Hinshaw, 96, a resident of Avon, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1918 in Henry County to the late William J. and Edith Mae (Evans) Hinshaw.

A former resident of New Castle, he retired from Ford Motor Company in 1982 after 25 years of service. Hubert was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded a Bronze Star. He loved reading his Bible, building model airplanes, working crossword puzzles and painting.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Betty I. Hinshaw of Avon, three daughters: Sharon (Bruce) Cox and Cathy (Ed) Stevenson, both of Indianapolis and Ruth Ann (Mike) Spence of Mooresville; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Robert (Vera) Hinshaw of Colorado Springs, CO and Donald (Shirley) Hinshaw of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Smith, a brother: Cecil Hinshaw, a great granddaughter: Adelyn Spence and a son-in-law: Len Upchurch.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Brick Cemetery, near Hagerstown with Thomas French officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by a contingent from the United States Army, the American Legion and the VFW.
