I. Emogene "Jean" Pate

I. Emogene “Jean” Pate, age 87, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in New Castle following an extended illness. She was born July 13, 1926 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Harry and Alta (O’Neal) Kern.

A 1944 graduate of Cadiz High School, Jean worked at Guide Lamp before transferring to Delco Remy (both in Anderson), where she worked for 30 years collectively. She was a member of Cadiz Christian Church for many years. Jean loved to crochet, and loved babysitting for her nieces, nephews and any children in the neighborhood. Jean enjoyed playing euchre, yahtzee and checkers. An avid sports fan, she loved the Cincinnati Reds, IU basketball, Trojan basketball, and also enjoyed watching tennis.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie Pate of New Castle; two sisters, Jeanette Imler and Jackie (husband, Tom) Eversole, both of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, great, great- great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews; also, Larry Wayne (wife, Dina) Redwine of Barbourville, KY, who was like a son to Jean.

In addition to her parents, Harry and Alta Kern, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel Pate; a son, Tony Pate; a grandson, Cody Smith; two sisters, Ada B. Macy and Janice Riggs; a niece, Marilyn Wilson, and a nephew, Danny Riggs.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
