Jackie L. Wallen Sr., 78, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Henry County Hospital following a brief illness. He was born December 28, 1936 in New Castle, a son of the late Robert and Dora (Neal) Wallen.
A 1954 graduate of New Castle High School, Jackie played football for New Castle and was known as “Cannonball Wallen”. He retired from the New Castle Fire Department after 26 years of service. He also owned and operated Jack’s Bicycle Shop in New Castle for over 16 years. He also retired from Herdrick Petroleum in Rushville after 20 years of service. An avid sports and Nascar fan, Jackie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 50 years, Versa Wallen of New Castle; five children, Robin Wallen of Louisville, KY, Billy David (Tammy) Wallen of Leesburg, FL, Bobby (Jane) Wallen of New Castle, Jackie L. (Stephanie) Wallen Jr., of Louisville, KY, and Misty (Justin) Murphy of New Castle; eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Wallen in 2001; a sister, Sue Akers, and two brothers, Billy Gene Wallen and Paul Wallen.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bill Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of service at the funeral home.
