James E. Crider

James E. Crider, 83, of Shirley, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born March 25, 1931 in Beech Grove the son of Rev. Marcellus and Mary Lavon (Nelson) Crider.

Jim served in the U.S. Army in Japan for one year. He retired from Chrysler in 1993 after 27 years of service. Jim and his family traveled as song evangelists for many years. He was a member of the Shirley Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Janet (Williams) Crider of Shirley; six children, Cheryl (husband, Rev. Tim) Bender of Shelbyville, TN, Jean (husband, Mike) Huff of Wilkinson, Janelle Sue (companion, Rocky Whisman) McGaughey both of New Castle, Michael (wife, Sherri) Crider of Greenfield, Sharron (husband, Kevin) Stewart of New Palestine and Karen (husband, Bryan) Cook of Brownsburg; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Donna (husband, Tom) Boone of Greenfield; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Wessic and husband James; son-in-law, David McGaughey.

Services will at 1:30 PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Reverends Tim Bender and Dan Jones officiating.
