James Hollis Flowers, 89, of New Castle passed away at his residence, Monday, November 21, 2016. He was born June 24, 1927 in Byrdstown, Tennessee to Ezra L. and Bonnie L. (Zachary) Flowers.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Allison Transmission following 40 years of service. Jim enjoyed pitching horseshoes, and was a member of the New Castle Horseshoe Club and also enjoyed coon hunting. He received a Citizenship Award from Mayor Bud Ayers. Jim was a hardworking man who provided guidance, discipline and a home for his family.
Survivors include his children, Ivan Wade (LeaAnn) Flowers of Kennard, Angela (companion, Gerald Thomas) Flowers of Springlake, NC, Arlene Kay (David N.)Kotkoff of New Castle, Joyce Flowers of New Castle, Stephanie (Jason) Bowen of New Castle, Stacie (companion, Michael Ridenour) Flowers of New Castle; grandchildren, Hailey Flowers of Kennard, Joshua Patrick (Jennifer Hope) Stigall of Muncie, Patricia Jo (Bryant) Taylor of Middletown, Chasity Renay (Wes) Jones of Shirley, Melinda Aust of New Castle, Brendan, Christian, Noah, and Elijah Bowen all of New Castle, Alyssa and Aiden Flowers of New Castle; great grandchildren, Jordan, Jaylan and Jaxson Stigall all of Muncie, Ethan and Ava Taylor of Middletown, Kaytlyn Hampton and Aleyna Sharritts, and Tyler Jones of Shirley; nephews, Robbie (Janet) Moles of Byrdstown, Tennessee and Wilson Blain of Noblesville.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Clara V. “Granny” Flowers; brother, Glenn Flowers; sisters, Easter Moles, Ruby Flowers, Jewel Blaine and Dimple Robbins; nephew, Charles Sexton; niece, Barbara Sexton.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Charles Dugger officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens.
