James Roger Greenwell, 76 of New Castle, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at Henry Community Health. He was born January 15, 1941 in Indianapolis to the late Delbert and Thelma (Hammel) Greenwell.
Jim retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1995 after 30 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was affiliated with White Branch Church of the Brethren and South Christian Church in Mooreland. Jim was a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, especially making clocks. He loved fishing, camping, and was an avid sports fan. He was known for his sense of humor and love for his family.
Survivors include three children, Jenny (Jim) Cash of Hagerstown; Rob Greenwell and Brian (Kimberly) Greenwell all of Mooreland; five step-children, Vicki (Ronald) Abels of Anderson; Ronnie (Heather) Pierce of Saukville, WI; Bill (Lisa) Pierce of New Castle; Rita Kelsey (Danny Walker) of Ashland, MS; David Pierce of New Castle; sixteen grandchildren, Joshua and Jared Cash, Sarah Okon, Joshua Pierce, Missy Wise, Justin Pierce, Tiffany Harris, Trent and Emily Pierce, Edward and Krystal Kelsey, Danny Wayne and Kayla Walker, Whitney Guhr, Cory Smith, Dylon Pierce, Josie Lacy; four step-grandchildren; Brittany Delucio, Lynday and Steven Padgett, Brandon (Tesla) Hughes; several great-grandchildren including Jamie and Zayda Cash, Nolan Okon; one brother Charles “Chuck” Greenwell of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and extended family, Danny Pierce and Lynne Lacy.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Elene Greenwell; three grandchildren, Jamie Cash, Kimberly and Krystina Kelsey; brothers, Richard and Bob Greenwell; step-children, Victor Pierce and DeWayne Wadman; and nephew; Steve Greenwell.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Brian Mackey and Adam Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, March 22nd at the funeral home.
