James "Jim" Wood

August 25, 1937 — May 13, 2017

James “Jim” Michael Wood, 79, has entered his Heavenly home to be with his father, Charles “Chuck” Wood, his mother, Inez (Apple) Wood and his younger brother, Robin Wood.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, quietly at his home, Red River Road, Jim left his wife of 60 years, Jerrie (Hampton) Wood along with his three children, Frank “Mike” (wife, Jessie) Wood, Micki (husband, Allen) Neal, Aaron (wife, Laura) Wood and Jim’s favorite cat, Buddy.

It was a special joy in Jim’s heart to be a fatherly figure in the lives of his grandchildren, Milora Wood, Steven (wife, Wendy) Wood, Autumn (husband, Cory) Eaton, Stephen (wife, Kyleigh) Wood and Ariel Wood.

A delight to his heart also are his grandchildren, Brandon (wife, Velena) Nowling, Tyler (special friend, Allyson Young) Wood, Mathew (wife, Brandy) Neal, Ryan Neal (who has gone on to be with the Lord), McKaleigh Eaton, Keira Eaton, and three year old, Travis Eaton.
Jim graduated with the Class of “55 New Castle High School and has been a lifelong fan of the New Castle Trojans, sitting on the front row at the Field House games while wearing his green and white Trojan jacket.

Jim had retired from the Prudential Insurance Agency with 34 years of service, and he has many friends in and around the New Castle area. Through the years he received many awards and recognitions for his outstanding salesmanship. He is privileged to have his picture hanging in the Chicago, IL Prudential Hall of Fame. One of Jim’s greatest pleasures in life has been taking his family to the yearly Prudential Conferences in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada and all over the United States.

Mr. Wood was privileged to serve on the New Castle City Council Board, Ward 4.
A great pleasure in Jim’s life was traveling and sitting on the Billy Springfield Evangelistic Board of Directors, attending the services and meetings all over Indiana and the surrounding states.
Jim loved Breakfast Optimist Club and all his friends. He enjoyed driving “Little Louie” and volunteering for the Henry County Hospital and especially enjoyed and loved his church, Foursquare Gospel, where he served many years as an usher. In earlier years under the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Flowers, Jim taught Sunday school classes and served on the church board.

Jim is leaving temporarily, until united in Heaven, his very special sister and brother-in-law, Jackie Jo and John R. Thomas, brother-in-law, Larry (wife, Marilyn) Dailey and several nieces and nephews. Jim is known for his great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.
