James L. “Jim” Johnson, 79, of New Castle passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017. He was born September 8, 1937 in New Castle to the late James A. and Helen L. (Trinder) Johnson.
Jim graduated from New Salem High School in 1955, and was a navigator in the U. S. Navy. He retired from Dana Corp. where he worked in Rushville, New Castle, and Syracuse. Jim was a past member of the VFW in Rushville. He was a NASCAR fan and loved Jimmy Johnson; he enjoyed the outdoors and was a very hard working man.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara S. Johnson of New Castle; children, Michael (Shannon) Johnson of Middleville, MI; Jeffery (Debbie) Johnson of Rushville; Susan (John) Hill of Rushville; Kimberly Garrett Johnson of Newark, OH; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, brother, David R. Johnson of Joliet, IL; two sisters, Mary L. (Mike) Hollars of Bloomington; Virginia L. Whittaker of Rushville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Gerald Johnson, one great-granddaughter, Trentity Dunn, two great-grandsons, Ethan and Elijah MacDonald.
Services will be at 7:00pm Thursday May 11, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Don Cox officiating and military rites conducted by the local VFW/American Legion and the US Navy. Burial at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until time of service.
