James E. Vaughn, age 89, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord before sunrise Friday, July 31, 2015 at Henry County Hospital. He was born January 26, 1926 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Fred and Lesta (Maine) Vaughn.
He retired from Firestone /World Bestos, where he served as a machinist and foreman. A World War II veteran, Jim served in the U.S. Navy, where he was Seaman First Class on the USS Omaha and sailed to many ports and was a barber on ship. An avid history buff, Jim was very patriotic and passionately proud of his country. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and loved the Colts.
Jim was the beloved husband to his wife, Hilda Vaughn of New Castle for over 55 wonderful years. They were happily married on July 2, 1960. He is survived by, five children, Michael (Nannette) Pickett of Maxwell, Tim (Teresa) Pickett of New Castle, James Pickett of Straughn, Carol Ann Jessup of Noblesville and Susan (Carl) Pollock of Noblesville; seven grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Stefani, Megan, James, Scott and Michael; six great grandchildren, Jaden, Brooklynn, Emily, Kasen, Parker and Zavier and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Eldon Vaughn and several brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Heart Association, 1000 N. 16th Street
