Jerome T. Bettag, 84, of Knightstown, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield. He was born December 28, 1929 in Jasper the son of Harold and Margaret Bettag.
He retired from the Indianapolis Star as a typesetter and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Jerome was an avid golfer after starting out as a caddy. He enjoyed bowling, IU Basketball and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years: Rachel Bettag of Knightstown; stepchildren: Kevin (Janeice) Schmidt; Eric (Pamela) Schmidt, Brian Schmidt, Anita Jackson, Marvin (Hiromi) Schmidt, Rodney (Jena) Schmidt, Gordon Schmidt, Valerie (Tom) O’Laughlin; 14 step grandchildren, two step great grandchilden; three sisters: Virlee Tunselman of St. Henry, IN, Viola Vaal of Ferdinand, IN and Mary Ann Cunningham of Moline, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Hoppenjans.
Services will be at 12:30 PM Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Tim Basford officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 Am until time of service.
