Joyce Darlene Hastings, 64, went home to heaven Wednesday, February 21, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was at her home with her family by her side in New Castle, Indiana.
Mrs. Hastings was born on April 7, 1953 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Betty L. (Rose) and David Madden, and was the beloved wife of Ralph “Buzz” Scott Hastings for over 47 years.
Darlene attended New Castle Chrysler High School. She met and married Buzz Hastings in 1970. Mrs. Hastings was a homemaker while her husband, Buzz worked for Indiana Bell Telephone for over 36 years. She lived most of her life in New Castle, but enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Clermont, Florida with her husband and friends. She loved the ocean, visiting Disney World, and spending time with family, friends, and her faithful dog, Winston. She was an active member of Mount Zion Wesleyan Church.
Her interests included family, antiquing, and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother Betty, until she passed away at age 72.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Buzz Hastings of New Castle; two sons, Brian Scott Hastings (wife: Catherine) of Arlington, Virginia and Eric Ryan Hastings (wife: Tia) of Manning, South Carolina; seven grandchildren: (Stephanie Hollin, Myles Hollin, Kaela Harris, Kyler Harris, Sam Hastings, Matthew Hastings and Cameron Hastings; and one great-grandchild: Mia Smith; an uncle: Vernon Rose (wife: Terry) of Mineral Ridge, Ohio. The Hastings family would also like to thank special friends and caregivers Anita Hillman, Pat Fournier, and the many special caregivers of Ball Memorial Hospice.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 26 at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church with visitation from 9:00 am- 10:00 am, prior to the service. Pastor Steve Arnett will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
