Kay Lightfoot

Kay Lightfoot, 80, of New Castle, died peacefully at home Saturday morning after a brief illness. She was born December 25, 1935 in Henry County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Chester and Pauline (Crandall) Ward.

Kay worked as a legal secretary for Scotten & Hinshaw Attorneys, and worked at the Henry County Courthouse for over 30 years, serving as the county’s first female bailiff, retiring as Circuit Court Administrator. A 1953 graduate of Spiceland High School, she was a member of the Spiceland United Methodist Church and the Spiceland Alumni Association for many years. Kay enjoyed reading and visiting with friends and family, and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ron Lightfoot of New Castle, whom she married May 28, 1955; a son, Scott (Susan) Lightfoot of New Castle; a daughter, Jody Mitchell of New Castle; grandchildren, Ty Mitchell of New Castle, Jessica Mitchell of Spiceland, Brady (Samantha) Lightfoot and Taylor Lightfoot, both of New Castle; great grandson, Isaiah DeWitt of Spiceland; two nieces, Suzanne (Jeff) Stiller of Greenfield and Mindy (Steve) Rose of Middleton, WI; a sister-in-law, Barbara Ward of Spiceland and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Ward.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Richard Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
