Kotea Purvis

Kotea Purvis, age 78, of New Castle, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Heritage House in New Castle. She was born April 15, 1937 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Haywood and Frances (Ramey) Wallen.

She was a 1955 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School. She had been a housekeeper in private homes for many years and had worked in several restaurants in New Castle. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and had attended New Salem United Baptist Church in New Castle.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie (Troy) Cornelius of New Castle; two granddaughters, Makayla Cassidy Cornelius and Presley Saige Cornelius, both of New Castle; a sister, Mary Wright of Michigan; two brothers, Herschel Wallen of Tennessee and Lee Wallen of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Haywood Wallen and Frances (Ramey) Wallen Huffman, and her step father, Roy Huffman; a sister, Jean Dicken; a brother, Junior Wallen, and a step-brother, Charles “Jake” Wallen.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
