Lela Frances Wiley, 95, a resident of Indianapolis and formerly of Spiceland, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Westminster Village North. She was born April 24, 1919 in Letts Corner, Indiana to the late Francis Marion and Edna (Owen) Crise.
She retired from The Clinic in New Castle in 1981 where she had worked as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. Lela was a member of Spiceland Methodist Church and a home economics club. She was a volunteer for RSVP and enjoyed knitting, especially making clothing for premature infants.
Survivors include two daughters: Martha (William) Wheeler of Indianapolis and Helen (Richard) Parker of Greenfield; a son: Harold (Rita) Wiley of Indianapolis; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; a sister: Martha Bernice Critser of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years: Forrest Byard Wiley in 2006 and a great granddaughter: Nicole Marie Wheeler.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Presbyterian Union Cemetery, near Greensburg.
