Leland E. “Pid” Hood, age 88, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Henry County Hospital. He was born July 13, 1926 in Greensburg, Indiana to the late Charles and Bessie Mabel (Robbins) Hood.
Leland was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He retired from Kroger as a meat cutter following 42 years of service. Leland served in the United States Navy during World War II and was an active lifetime member of the Moose Lodge where he received his Pilgrim degree. Leland was also a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion 40 & 8 and the Eagles. He was known for his great sense of humor and playing Santa Claus. He was also an avid coin collector.
Survivors include two sons, Darry (Sue) Hood of Knightstown and Keith (Rosalie) Hood of Kokomo, IN; a sister, Dorothy Foster of Greensburg, IN; five grandchildren, Scott (Deanna) Hood, Andy (Jennifer) Hood, Alison Steger, Josh (Nicole) Hood, and Emily (Rich) McCorkle; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Hood; four brothers, James, Scott, Lloyd and Charles Hood, Jr.; three sisters, Sally Holbrook, Margaret Bills and Lorraine Spillman.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Russ Lutes officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
