Lena M Simpson

Lena Marie Simpson, 89, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Kindred Healthcare in Greenfield. She was born October 18, 1925 in Wayne County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Floyd Denney and Bonnie Mae Lowe.

She was a waitress at Top Hat Pizza on Broad Street for many years. Lena cherished poetry and loved writing her own poems. She was family oriented and a very nurturing mother. Lena loved the Lord and served him faithfully as a member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God, where she was a member for 50 years.

She is survived by her children: Betty (Cecil) Burnett of Russell Springs, Kentucky; Rita Custer of Greenfield; Louise Simpson of New Castle; Mike Simpson of Muncie; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister: Jean Covey of Indianapolis; brother: Rev. Hayden Denney of Monticello, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Marty Simpson (7/2/2014); one grandson; one great grandson; three brothers, one sister and one baby sister.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
