Leo D. Stephens

Leo D. Stephens, 87, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 4, 2016 at IU Health Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. He was born July 21, 1929 in Rush County, Indiana to the late James and Bertha (Stevens) Stephens.

Leo retired from Firestone following 30 years of service and later worked for the Henry County Hospital as a security guard for 8 years. He was a 50 year member of the F & AM Lodge #91 and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Leo attended First Assembly of God. He loved spending time outside working in his yard, but more importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jamie Colleen Stephens; sons, Talmadge (Teresa) Stephens, Terry (Cynthia) Stephens all of New Castle; four grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Morrow, Jarod Stephens both of New Castle, Ryan Stephens of Chicago, Emily (Dustin) McDaniel of New Castle; three great grandchildren, Landree Morrow, Landen Morrow, Hannah Stephens; siblings, Leon (Joyce) Stephens of Veedersburg, Cathryn Henneman of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene Stephens, Laura Walters, Ina Jessup and Helen Simmons.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery.
