Lois Jeanne Phillips, 81, of New Castle passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 in her home following an extended illness. She was born May 20, 1934 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Roger and Ruth (Bennett) Riggs.
Lois retired from Val Corporation in New Castle in 1991 following 18 years of service. She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1282 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer for several years. A member of the Red Hat Society, she also enjoyed fishing and camping.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Linda (Timothy) Foreman of Grand Junction, MI, Susan (Greg) Hahn of New Castle, and Laura (Joe) Thompson of New Castle; six grandchildren, Paul (Anne) Stover of Pendleton, Dr. Mark (Tara) Foreman of Muskegon, MI, Andy (Emily) Foreman of Indianapolis, Kelly Thompson (Jason Swearingen) of Noblesville, Megan (Ryan) Fairchild of New Castle, and Derek Thompson of New Castle; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Hopman of CA; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Phillips Jr. in 2001; a sister, Mary Bernice Marks, and a half-sister, Lily Gravlin.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Timothy Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
