Marilyn White

September 4, 1924 — August 26, 2018

Marilyn White, 93, of Knightstown passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. She was born September 4, 1924 in Knightstown to the late John Myron and Eunice Lucille (Johnson) Strattan, in the house where she spent 85 of her 93 years.

Marilyn graduated from Knightstown High School and Earlham College with a degree in English. After graduation she married Darrell White and spent the rest of her life taking care of her family.

She was a birthright Quaker and lifetime member of Knightstown Friends Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the United Society of Friends Women. She was a strong supporter of Henry County 4-H and was a leader for over 20 years. When Darrell drove a school bus and transported the basketball team, one of her favorite activities was providing a chili supper for the team each year. She also enjoyed traveling with family all over the country attending livestock shows. She was a Henry County Extension Homemaker for 50 years and Homemaker of the Year in 1989.

Survivors include four children: Darlene (Steven) Decker of Vincennes, Beverly (Jonnie) Dills of Knightstown, Larry (Janet) White of Knightstown and Karilyn White of New Castle; grandchildren: Mark (Valerie) Sloneker, John (Cheryl) Sloneker, David White, Ann (Dusty) Hitt, Lindsay (Brandon) King and Rex (Bobbi) Decker: great-grandchildren: Makayla and Corban Hitt, Kinzie and Kasen King, Chloe and Adron Decker, Avery and Dylan Sloneker; a sister: Dorothy (Ed) Hinshaw; brother-in-law: Bruce (Linda) White; sisters-in-law: Myra Lou Crull and Clara Sue Hicks; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Darrell White and her sister: Martha Louise Strattan.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Knightstown Friends Church with Pastor Tim Basford officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 30 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Henry County 4H Association or Knightstown Friends Church. Condolences and memories of Marilyn may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com .
