Martha L. (Broyles) Van Cise, 97, passed away in her home at Glen Oaks Healthcare Center on Monday, February 23, 2015. She was born July 6, 1917 in Woodford County, KY to parents, Julius and Mary (Weber) Broyles. She attended Camp Taylor Elementary School and Okalona High School, both in Louisville, KY.
At the age of 15 she felt a call to Christian service, and was appointed to Home Missionary Service in Eastern Kentucky in 1939. She married Rev. John Van Cise on January 31, 1942. Together they served as pastors of Wesleyan Churches at Zion’s Hill Mission, Jackson, KY; Elizabeth, IN; Senecaville, OH; Nellie, OH; Dunkirk, OH; Pekin, IN; Owensboro, KY; Parkersburg, WV; Columbus, OH; Mt. Vernon, OH and Morristown, TN. They retired in 1981 and moved to New Castle, IN.
Martha was active in Wesleyan World Mission, and for several years served as Statistician of the Ohio District of the Wesleyan Church. Martha was a member of the Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in New Castle, IN from 1981 to the present.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John W. Van Cise; brothers, John, Milton and Irvin Broyles; four sisters, Anna Belle Broyles, Lula (Broyles) Richardson, Rosa Lee (Broyles) Bill and Elma (Broyles) Taylor; and one grandson, John Case, Jr.
She is survived by three children, Betty (Rev. John) Case of New Castle, IN, Rev. Bob (Veralyn) Van Cise of Marion, IN and Delores (Steve) Conover of St Paul, IN; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Jerry and Joe Case, Joy (Case) Beveridge, Paul and Daniel Van Cise, and Melinda (Van Cise) Tippey. Also surviving are 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 27, 2015 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church with Pastor Steve Arnett and family participating in the service. Internment will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Thursday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church.
