Mary Louise Guffey, 79, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 in Henry County Hospital following a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1936 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Robert and Ida Mae (Tuggle) Tucker.
Mary graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1954 and from Indiana University in 1976 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was employed at Interlocal Community Action Program (ICAP). She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle. Passionate about sports, Mary was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Colts, IU, Pacers, and Indiana Bulls fan. She enjoyed playing cards, games, doing crafts and puzzles. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great nieces and nephews play sports. One of the happiest times of her life was when Mary lived on a house boat on Lake Cumberland for over twelve years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Mike (Julie) Spencer of New Castle, and her daughter, Tami (Jerry) Reamer of Franklin; three grandchildren, Jacob and Jason Spencer of New Castle, and Abagail Reamer of Bloomington; great grandchildren, Cameron and Nathaniel Tracy of Franklin; two sisters, Evie (Mick) Ballard of Millville and June (John) Woollard of New Castle; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Guffey; a granddaughter, Lauren Reamer, and a sister, Maxine Vores.
Mary’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all of Mary’s wonderful caregivers over the years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Bro. Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
