Max E. Stanley

Max E. Stanley, 93, of Knightstown, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Morristown Manor. He was born October 23, 1921 in Connersville to the late Alpha and Anna Laverna (Bicknell) Stanley.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Max served as an Aviation Metal Smith Second Class during World War II. He was stationed in both Santa Rosa and San Diego, CA where he serviced Bomber Planes from Theodore Roosevelt and Benjamin Franklin Carriers. Max was then sent to Sangley Point Caviti in the Philippines where he serviced Martin Mariner Patrol Planes.

Max served as school superintendent for the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home from 1962 to 1987. He was a member of the National Association of secondary school principal’s as well as the ISTA. He belonged to the Knights of Pythias, Knightstown American Legion and was a charter member of the Knightstown Optimist Club. Max loved spending time with his family, coaching and attending basketball games, working in his yard and his dogs.

He is survived by two sons, Loren (Katherine) Stanley of Greenfield and Kenneth (Jean) Stanley of Rushville; a daughter Marianne (Denny) Gergely of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; Doug (Kathy) Stanley, Timothy (Kelly) Stanley, Amy (Greg) Murphy, Ryan (Emily) Wilson and Brooke Triplett; eighteen great grandchildren; a brother: Richard Stanley of Columbia City and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Wilma Stanley in 2014 and three brothers.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Deacon Russ Woodard officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a contingent from the United States Navy and American Legion Post #152. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery in Connersville. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the funeral home.
