Melinda Kathryn Poindexter, 56, of New Castle passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She was loved by everyone that knew her. She was a very selfless person and gave of herself in almost every way. She made her final selfless gift by being an organ donor and helping provide life to three individuals.
Melinda was born on June 19, 1961 to the late Jerry and Wanda Sampley. She was a 1979 graduate of Hagerstown Sr. High School. That same year she married her husband, Douglas Poindexter. She worked part time at Draper Inc. in custodial services and the other part of the time she was enjoying her 6 grandchildren, whom she loved with all of her being. Melinda also worked for Weiland’s Flowers in New Castle for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Sampley in 2000 and her mother, Wanda Sampley in 2011. She lost a special granddaughter, Maci Jo Brennan in February of 2014.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Poindexter, three daughters, Alisha Dawn (Johnny) Burris, Brandi Lynn (Justin) Jones, Courtney Dianne (Joey) Fritch and sister, Connie Sampley of New Castle.
Melinda has many loving relatives left to cherish her memory, including aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, brother-in law and sisters-in law.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Rev. Frank Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
