Melinda D. (Sell) Poynter, 62, of New Castle, succumbed to her illness on Saturday, August 22, 2015, following a long-fought battle. She was born August 21, 1953 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Herman and Delta (Finley) Sell.
She had been employed as a cook for New Castle Community School Corp. for several years, and had also worked for Visteon Corp. in Connersville for 11 years. She had attended Foursquare Gospel Church in New Castle. An avid BINGO player, she enjoyed creative cooking, the outdoors, her flower garden and reading. Known as a “people person”, Melinda never met a stranger, and was a very “loveable” person.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her life partner, James Mohler Jr. of New Castle, a son, James Poynter of Muncie; two step-sons, Ryan (Kerry) McKee of Anderson and Jeremy Mohler of Indianapolis; a sister, Karen (Kris) Mahin of Ft. Myers Beach, FL; a brother, Chris (Donna) Sell of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews, Erin Mahin (Scott Wise) of New Castle, Lilly Guffey of New Castle, Tommy Sell of Tampa, FL; and a close family friend, Johnna Davis of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kip Poynter.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Friday until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Melinda D.
