Melvin Eugene Brumley, age 85 of New Castle, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 16, 1929 in Zula, Kentucky to the late Roy and Lura (Frost) Brumley.
He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant during the Korean War. Melvin retired from Dana Corporation after 35 ½ years of service. He formerly owned and operated the Gulf Gas Station in New Castle. He was a member of the Otter Creek #530 Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the North 14th Street Church of God where he assisted with many projects. He loved restoring antique cars and was an avid basketball fan, especially U.K. Melvin was an outdoorsman, he loved yard work and attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include his children, Gail (Jeff) Cummings of New Castle and Randy (Kelly) Brumley of New Castle; grandchildren, Cindi (Bryan) Rottinghaus, Matt (Lisa) Hill, Jason (Casey) Ellis, Ashley (Kyle) Beavers and Kyle (Sarah) Brumley; great grandchildren, Spencer (Brittney) and Shelby Rothinghaus, Luke, Jake and Mia Hill, Alexis and Lynleigh Ellis, Bobby and Trey Taylor, Grant and Gwen Beavers; one great-great grandson, Kooper Rottinghaus; three sisters, Vena McFall of KY, Evelena Upchurch of New Castle and Faye (Leon) Smith of Burkesville, KY; three brothers, Don (Emma) Brumley of New Castle, Everett (Retha) Brumley of Muncie and Bill (Sheila) Brumley of FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Brumley; daughter, Sherry Martin; great granddaughter, Jasmyne Ellis; sister Ruth York; two brothers, Ernest Brumley and Jr. Brumley.
Masonic Services will be at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2105 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the funeral service immediately following. Brother Phil Brown will be officiating and Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
