Norma Catherine “Kate” (Bailey) Carter, age 88, of Spiceland, went to be with her Lord, surrounded by several members of the family, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Reid Health, Richmond. She was born February 28, 1927 in Shelby County, Indiana to the late Clarence Steven and Ida Emma (McDaniel) Bailey.
A member of the Nazarene faith since age 26, Kate was a member of the Spiceland Church of the Nazarene since its beginning. A homemaker, God and her family were her main passions in life; therefore just being with her family and church friends was her greatest joys. She also enjoyed traveling, fishing, quilting, gardening, sewing, reading, cooking, and embroidering.
Survivors include her children, William E. “Bill” (Rosemary) Carter of Spiceland, Steven E. Carter, (friend, Tracy Raley) of Spiceland, and Karen Jane (Michael) Smith of Spiceland; grandchildren; Timothy (Margie) Carter, Tamara (Victor) Neal, Tracy Spurgin, Kenneth Carter, Steven (Amy) Carter, Nicholas (Kristy) Carter, Chad (Kelly) Smith, Kristen (Clint) Wilkerson, Derek Smith, and Dusty Smith; great grandchildren, Timothy (Jada) Carter, Amanda (Wesley) Hamilton, Rosella Neal, (friend, Nestor Muller), Billy (Tiffany) Neal, Lee (Melissa) Spurgin, Anna Spurgin, Cody Carter, Seth Carter, Caleb Carter, Dominik Carter, Andrew Smith, Angel (Nathaniel) Prince, Zach Lacy, Lilian Smith, Draven Smith, Ivy Smith, Payton Latham, Spencer Latham, Andrew Martin and Kristen Martin; great-great grandchildren, Camrie Spurgin, Raegan Spurgin, McKinlee Spurgin, Asher Neal, Bailey Hamilton and one on the way; sister, Roberta Listenberger of Franklin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ed Carter in 2001; son, Thomas Eugene Carter, and a brother, Robert Eugene Bailey.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Hamilton and Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
