Paul E. Stover

Paul E. Stover, 87, a resident of New Castle passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at his home. He was born January 15, 1927 in Henry County to the late Harry R. and Myrtle Irene (Cordell) Stover.

Paul was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God where he took care of the tape ministry and sound board for many years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II. Paul retired from the New Castle Fire Dept. after 34 ½ years of service. A member of Local #17, Paul served as its treasurer for many years. He had also served as chief of the Salvation Army Disaster Canteen. He owned and operated Stover Janitorial Service for over 17 years. Paul enjoyed his foreign coin collection, was a good organizer and loved to tell jokes.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Barbara A. (Byers) Stover, whom he married June 30, 1946; four daughters: Sharon Kay (Richard) Wittbold of New Castle, Shirley Ann Dobbs of New Castle, Paula Diane (Steve) Snodgress of Johnstown, CO and Connie Lynn (Paul) Davis of New Castle; fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren; a sister: Helen Miller of Hagerstown; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Paul David Stover; four sisters: Dorothy Martin, Wanda Hunt, Roberta Retz and Ruth Oler; two brothers: Ralph and Harry Robert Stover, Jr.

A fireman’s funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a contingent from the United States Navy, the American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the South Memorial Drive Church of God Food Pantry, 3800 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
