Philip Edward Kissane

Philip Edward Kissane, 80, of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at IU Health Methodist Hospital following an extended illness. He was born January 12, 1934 to the late Orla and Beatrice (Zile) Kissane and was raised and lived in Cadiz.
Phil was a 1951 graduate of Cadiz High School. He retired from the United States Army following over 20 of service. He was a private pilot and a board member of the New Castle Henry County Airport board. Phil thoroughly enjoyed horses and was a 38 year member of the Henry County 4-H, where he was awarded “Friend of 4-H”, and the Official Show Steward of the Indiana State Fair Horse Show from 2003 to 2006. He was also a past President of the Henry County Saddle Club. In 1996, Phil retired from Duke Energy following 30 years of service, then went on to work at the Henry County Sheriff’s Department as a transport officer. Phil was also a member of the Elks #484 and American Legion Post #137.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Jane Kissane; children: Sharon (Chris) Rothenberger of Indianapolis, Linda Miller of Pendleton; grandchildren: Rachel (Jon) Phillips of New Castle, Michelle (Chris) Voivodas of Indianapolis, Grace, Megan and Kyle Miller of Pendleton; great grandchildren: Morgan, Harper Phillips and William Voivodas; sisters: Orlita (Wayne) Copenhaver, Susie (Brian) Bolinger; and a brother: Pat (Teri) Kissane.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother: William Cook.
Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mandye Yates officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday, August 27 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County 4-H Horse and Pony Club, 1201 Race Street, Suite 303, New Castle, IN 47362 or envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
