Phyllis E. Murray, 87, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, May 02, 2017 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. She was born on October 20, 1929 in Muncie to the late Carl and Florence Evans.
She was a graduate of Cadiz High School where she was a cheerleader and in the marching band. Phyllis retired as secretary following several years of service at Ingersol Steel a division Borg-Warner. She was a member of the Cadiz Christian Church for 64 years serving as church organist/pianist for over 50 years and enjoyed Gospel music. Phyllis was a member of Greensboro Eastern Star for 64 years where she served as Worthy Matron. She was past deputy, former grand representative of Minnesota, Grand Organist of Indiana Grand Chapter, and did a lot of traveling over Indiana and other states. She and her husband had been on 9 cruises.
She is survived by a son, Steve (Terri) Murray of Middletown; granddaughters, Lynn (David) Brown of Columbus, OH and Gina (Isaac) Fields of New Castle; three great grandchildren, Miles Brown, Lucy Brown and Lavender Fields.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James H. Murray and infant brother Lamont Evans.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Jeff Johnson and Kirby Popplewell officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery in Middletown. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 5th at the Funeral Home with Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Cadiz Christian Church, 4894 W.
