Ralph Lee (R.L.) Hughes, 74, of New Castle, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at Henry Community Health . He was born June 2, 1942 in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Ralph and Zella (Daulton) Hughes.
Owner of R & R Auto Repair in New Castle, Ralph was a retired self employed auto mechanic. He had also been previously employed at Boles, Cutsinger, Montgomery and Rick Ward Auto Dealerships in New Castle. Ralph was a member of the Moose Lodge, coached Little League baseball, football, and Moose baseball. He was a former member of Breakfast Optimist Club and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. He enjoyed attending car shows, watching old westerns and college basketball, especially University of Kentucky. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 39 years, Regina (Thomas) Hughes; four sons, Randy Hammond of Richmond, IN; Gregg Lee (Jodi) Hughes of Ligoneir, IN; Scott A. Hughes of Cromwell, IN; Kerry L. (Nona A.) Hughes of Pierceton, IN; three daughters, Rhonda Hall of New Castle, Margaret (Israel) Chesher of Spiceland and Kim (Tony) Hilton of New Castle; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved very much; brother, Rick (Kenneth Farrington) Hughes of Augusta, Maine; three sisters, Joyce (Gene) Criswell of Staughn; Suetta (Mike) Donavon of Horton, KS and Anita (Jay) Gabbert of Staughn, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Tony Piper officiating. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
