Richard Arlen McConnell, 83, of Lewisville, passed away Wednesday, March 04, 2015 at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He was born December 20, 1931 to the late Ernest Glen and Elizabeth (Sorrell) McConnell.
He lived his entire life in Lewisville where he graduated from Lewisville High School with the class of 1950. Richard served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Amanda E. Chew on June 28, 1957 at the Lewisville Presbyterian Church. He retired from Dana Corporation after 37 years as a draftsman and Grede Foundries after four years of service. He was also employed by Heaven and Associates for many years. Richard enjoyed wood-working, crafting special gifts for his family, and spending lots of family time at the cabin in the woods. He also enjoyed being a substitute teacher for New Castle and South Henry Schools for 13 years. He was a life long member of Lewisville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Treasurer.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Amanda E. McConnell of Lewisville; five children, Kathy (James) Powell, Lisa McConnell, Julia (Jim) Howard, Alan McConnell and Steve McConnell; six grandchildren, Lana (Chuck) Brenneman, Zachary (Kendall) Powell, Tyler (Brittany) Powell, Jason (Christina) Howard, Laura Howard and Kevin Powell; three great grandchildren, Larissa and Caroline Brenneman and Kaelynn Powell, with another great grandbaby due in August; a brother, Ernest McConnell; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McConnell; four sisters, Evelyn Prince, Cleora Brecheisen, Arthela Pierce and Loretta Lamb.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Peter Zinn and Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 8 at the funeral home.
