Richard W. Mercer

Richard W. Mercer, 78, of New Castle, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hickory Creek at New Castle. He was born April 5, 1938 in New Castle, a son of the late Fredrick and Ruth (Simmons) Mercer.
A 1956 graduate of New Castle High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1960. Richard worked at the New Castle State Hospital for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Edithann Mercer of New Castle, whom he married December 16, 1956; children, Carrie Mercer of New Castle, Alan (Julie) Mercer of Huachuca, AZ, Vickie (Rob) Reno of Mt. Summit, Mark (Cindy) Mercer of St. George, UT, and Tracie (Mark) Young of Knoxville, TN; ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Jennings of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Ruth Mercer.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Young officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 until time of service Tuesday.
