Rosie Lorena Murphey

January 8, 1930 — August 20, 2015

Rosie Lorena Murphey, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born January 8, 1930 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Robert O. and Rosie Lee (Berryman) Murphey.

She was a member of the Westview Church of the Nazarene, she was one of the favorite pie bakers in New Castle and was well known for showing up at the mayor's office with a pie. She enjoyed her baking, her animals, her church family, and being able to stay active in socializing via phone with her friends all over the state. Raised in Kentucky and moved to New Albany where she worked in textile mills as a seamstress and also worked as a cashier in a grocery chain in southern Indiana. After moving to New Castle she went to Ivy Tech College to learn Word Processing and Secretarial Science. She held down jobs with First Baptist Church as their church secretary for a while and then she also worked with the ICAP office in New Castle. Due to illness, she had to focus on her health and wasn't able to work anymore.

Survivors include a sister, Ruth Mundt, KY; nephews, Frederick Dale Huddleson, IN and Ken Huddleston,MD; nieces: Nona Huddleston, Dalene Audrey Huddleston - Cates, IN, Ellen Huddleston, FL, Gena Huddleston - Smith, IN; great nephews, Josh Huddleston, John Cox, Ryan Huddleston, Amos Huddleston, Phillip Smith Jr.; great nieces, Angela Huddleston, Tracy Huddleston – Pallotta, Christa Matos, Enjoli Robin Holt, Johnetta Hall, Kelly Burnett, Jennifer Baker, Rachel Harsin; and 29 great great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Murphey and Janie L. Huddleston; two brothers, Bob and Theodore Murphey; nephew, Paul E. Huddleston (husband of Nona Huddleston); niece, Barbara Huddleston – Harsin.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Paul Riddle officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Condolences and memories of Rosie may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
