Sandra Jo Watt, 75, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born June 14, 1939 in Spiceland, Indiana to the late Tivis and Thelca (Huffman) Smalley.
She grew up in Spiceland and had many friends and family throughout Indiana. A 1957 graduate of Spiceland High School, she was a majorette and drum major in the marching high school band. She was a soda jerk at Andy’s Drug Store. Sandi and her brother, Doug Smalley, purchased the Hoover Hall building in October 1997 and donated it to the Spiceland Preservation and Tourism Society (SPATS). In the 1940’s, the building housed a dry-good store the Smalley family owned and operated. The Smalley-Watt Room, located upstairs, was a skating rink for many years. Sandi has been a long-time supporter of the Spiceland Alumni Association and SPATS.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Watt of Scottsdale, AZ; children, Brad (Meshell) Watt of Colorado Springs, CO and Deborah (Richard) Amitz of Scottsdale, AZ; two aunts, Louise Goodwin and Eileen Charlton, both of Spiceland; brother, Doug (Ginny) Smalley of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. A private burial will take place at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. The family would be blessed if Sandra’s memory is honored through donations to Spiceland Friends Meeting, 401 W. Main St., Spiceland, IN 47385.
